Abandoned Boys Camp

Photobucket

My last post about an abandoned place was a theme park in Redlands . I was able to find a lot of information on the park but the place I will be discussing in this entry is more of a mystery.

There is a YMCA Camp on the street just above where my family’s cottage is in the San Bernardino Mountains. The camp hasn’t operated in years. It closed for one summer and never reopened. Neighbors have guessed it is due to a lack of funding.

The camp is made up of a two big cabins, I presume these were the office and perhaps where the staff stayed. There is also a big two story cabin I’m guessing it was used as a mess hall and where activities were held.

The camp also consists of little cabins all around the property. I’m guessing these cabins are where the campers stayed. I found a section of the fence that was bent completely down and was able to step over it. I walked around the property but took pictures from a far. I wanted to go up close to each cabin, take pictures and see what was inside but being by myself I was afraid to.

The property doesn’t appear to have any sort of reconstruction going on. Although strangely enough there are a lot of boats still on the property. It all looks as though it’s just falling to pieces. The concrete has broken up everywhere with weeds growing through and there are a lot of broken windows.

The camp looked like it had some fun stuff to do including a pool (that is now drained) and hiking trails. One thing I don’t understand is that there are a lot of baskets hung on trees all around the property. I wonder what they were for.

Living in a place that is so manicured and well kept I find abandoned places like this really interesting and beautiful in their own way. I hope to go back soon with my boyfriend or some friends and explore this mysterious place more. It’s so spooky not knowing what happened! I wonder what other things I can discover about this place.
Squidcerely,

That does look a little creepy! I've applied to work at a summer camp in the US this summer and the camp they are trying to pursue for me is located in the San Bernardino Mountains - Pali Overnight Adventure, don't know if you've heard of it! x
